PhD Program Organization
The program is delivered in a hybrid format. This blended mode allows for personalized supervision of doctoral students through regular face-to-face meetings with supervisors and workshops and seminars throughout the doctoral program.
Seminars are broadcast synchronously and asynchronously via the digital platform, which was designed for this purpose. The training program is based in particular on scripted teaching materials. Access to the training platform is via a personal login (username and password). The online courses consist of reading material, learning activities, videos, an online discussion forum, and an information hub blog.
Educational support is provided through interactive tutoring. Teaching staff use Zoom, Teams, or Google Classroom for lectures. Seminars are delivered by both professors and professionals from the worlds of education and business. Thesis defenses will take place in person.
Assessment Methods
Assignments or homework may take the form of theoretical or empirical essays, critical summaries, individual learning journals, case studies, individual or group projects, internship reports, intervention reports, comprehensive exams, theses, etc. The grading system takes into account the quality of the work submitted on the platform, which is generally graded on a scale of 80%, and its presentation on Zoom (discussion forum, lectures, group projects), which is graded on a scale of 20%.
Defense Requirements
To be eligible to defend their thesis, doctoral students must:
- Have completed all seminars listed in the program
- Have presented at least one doctoral conference
- Have participated in the development of a project
- Have published at least three articles related to their thesis
Defense Procedures
The thesis supervisor writes a thesis submission report describing the candidate's doctoral research, the main questions they have addressed, the research methods and techniques used, and the main findings. The report concludes with a recommendation for the thesis to be submitted for the next steps in the defense process.
The director of the doctoral school submits the duly drafted thesis to external examiners for their opinion, and their reports determine whether the thesis defense can proceed immediately or whether new observations and corrections must first be incorporated.
The thesis defense is public and is organized at a university center/hub in a country other than that of the doctoral student in order to respect the principle of mobility and related experiences.
Defense Centers
The defense is public and is organized in a university center/center in a country other than that of the doctoral student in order to respect the principle of mobility and related experiences. In Africa, the partner centers where the defense will take place are located in Cotonou, Niamey, Yaoundé, and Libreville.
Certificate Award
On the report of a single defense, University of Lisala through the Interuniversity Center for Multidisciplinary Research (CIREP) in co-supervision and co-graduation with UNCR University commit to granting the joint degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Postdoctoral program
Nowadays, companies are changing the focus of their business strategy, moving from providing products and services to designing value-added solutions. Faced with this dynamic, institutions need to rethink their tools and adopt better criteria for analyzing the environment and the target market. Thus, the Interuniversity Center for Multidisciplinary Research (CIREP) is collaborating with the university trilogy: Lisala University, African University of Management and Technologies, and IRGIB Africa University to implement a range of measures aimed at positioning itself to provide solutions to the changes imposed by globalization and the international market on a daily basis.
In this sense, the trilogy sets out possible solutions. The various cases are illustrative. We can cite the establishment of the annual symposium to expand the international network for the creation of regional training and applied research centers and platforms serving African businesses. We also refer to Decision No. 021/UNILIS/DGCIREP/NME/2024 of July 12, 2024, establishing the "study work program" for assistants and heads of works, as well as the "promotion in grades" of researchers within partner universities. Article IV of the said decision stipulates that students registered for this purpose will have a workload to fulfill in order to strengthen the LMD system. Doctoral students will supervise at least three bachelor's theses during the three-year doctoral program, while postdoctoral students will supervise research work in laboratories: writing and co-publishing scientific articles, preparing conference papers, and participating in conferences and other doctoral communications.
One of the strategies for putting the content of this article into practice is the organization of the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) program for doctors and assistant professors who are involved and who will be integrated into the universities that make up the trilogy through the CIREP Interuniversity Multidisciplinary Research Center Network.
